Conservation work is helping to protect our precious moorland Monitoring Work to protect the iconic moorland of the Peak District and South Pennines is having a positive and statistically significant effect on the environment, research recently launched by The University of Manchester and the Moors for the Future Partnership has confirmed. The aim of the work is to return the moors to an active, healthy state by re-introducing native plants. It is thought that this work will increase the number of different plant species living there, raise the water table make the ground surface wetter and keep water on the hills for longer. A wider range of plant species improves the health of the moor, and makes it better able to support animal life including rare moorland birds. Raising the water table makes peaty soil less vulnerable to devastating wildfire, and improved vegetation cover helps slow the flow of water off the hills, especially in high rainfall events. Monitoring of this work is essential, to make sure that the predicted changes and improvements are becoming a reality. The research looked into the number of different plant species in the area, the depth of the water table and run-off production how much and how often water flows off the moors. The research was undertaken by the Moors for the Future Partnership in collaboration with academics from The University of Manchester.

Speed Dating is the contemporary equivalent of personals ads and dating agencies, with many advantages! Speed dating is what all those old paradigms from the ’80s and ’90s evolved into and has now established itself as the live dating event standard right across the globe. Speed dating is simply safer and more effective, especially when compared to online dating as there is no substitute for real, human, face-to-face introductions.
We also have discussion forums for chat, debate and arranging group social events.
Safety advice Dating is fun but to ensure you do it in the safest way possible we have put together some golden rules to help you get the most out of your journey. If someone you are communicating with on a dating website asks you for money or your bank details they are likely to be a scammer. Read more about scammers here.
If you have experienced monetary fraud on a dating site, report it to Action Fraud via their reporting tool here. Wait until you know someone a little better before you share your contact details. If someone asks for your number straight away, politely decline.

Toponymy[ edit ] The name Radcliffe is derived from the Old English words read and clif, meaning “the red cliff or bank”, on the River Irwell in the Irwell Valley. The Domesday Book records the name as “Radeclive”. Archaeological excavations in at Radcliffe E’es a level plain along the north bank of the Irwell, formed by retreating glacial deposits during the previous ice age found evidence of pre-historic activity, suggesting a lake village site, but dating techniques of the time were unreliable.
Further investigations in revealed rows of sharpened posts and worked timbers, but no further dating evidence was collected. In while repairs to the bridge at Radcliffe bridge were underway, a stone axe-hammer was found in the river bed. Radcliffe was likely moorland and swamps. Thomas Pilkington was at this time lord of many estates in Lancashire. Sir William Stanley may have placed the crown upon his head. Thomas Pilkington was attainted , and in February Earl Thomas was given many confiscated estates including those of Pilkington, which included the township of Pilkington , and Bury.
The manor of Radcliffe appears to have been included in her share, and thereafter was included in the Wilton estates.
